My next opening is at the Craighead Green Gallery in Dallas.
If you find yourself in town, the show opens this Saturday. Sept 10, 2011 from 5-8pm and
will be up through Oct.8th.

The Gentle Cibotium Barometz

We did another round of the SculptCad Rapid Artists project this year thanks to Nancy Hairston, SculptCad and Kevin Ayers. The premise of the SculptCad project is to take fine artists that don't typically work in digital media and have them create work and then have their pieces 3D printed. The artists from our group this year were Shawn Smith, David Van Ness, Peter Rand, Mark Grote, Shane Pennington and Brad Ford Smith. All really great and diverse work from this bunch of super talented artists. Our work then showed with other artists from around the country and their rapid prototyped work,  at the Rapid Show in Minneapolis.

Here is a photo of my piece at the RAPID show in courtesy of Kristen Turner and a link to a blog about the show.  Its 19" x 18" x16" and printed in SomosNext resin. The piece was based on the ancient myth of the "vegetable lamb".  The medieval plant was thought to grow sheep, who upon maturity chewed their way to freedom and the rest of the herd or trapped on the vine, were eaten by wolves.
Don't worry, my lamb was one of the lucky ones.

Show at Buchanan Gallery

I'm very excited to have another show at the Buchanan Gallery in Galveston, Texas.
The gallery looks beautiful and has moved back to it's original space after being in Houston
for a spell. The opening reception is Saturday, April 30th from 6-9 pm.

It's also Artwalk so there should be lots to see and do in Galveston.

The show will be up through June 4th, so if you're by the sea.... come and see.

I have a couple of new pieces in the Group Show 2011 at Craighead Green Gallery, so if you are out and about in Dallas, drop by and have a look. I always love the group show, something new from all of the gallery artists,  you get a chance to see what everyone has been up to lately.

The night went really well, we sold out and I was only a little nervous speaking. Brad Ford Smith, Nancy Hairston and Shawn Smith all did a great job. Thanks to everyone who made it out.

TEDxSMU and SculptCAD present.......

SculptCAD asked 12 artists (me being one of them) to diverge from their regular mediums and to create something new using state of the art digital sculpting tools. The work was then rapidprototyped (3D printed) and we're showing it all now in an exhibition at One Arts Plaza in Dallas. Participating artists are-

Digitally Sculpted Hare

Here is my finished hare sculpture for the SCRA project. It's resin and I've finished it in graphite.
It measures 15" x 17" x 9. I made it digitally using Freeform software and then it was rapid prototyped.

This is what's going to the 5x7: Art Splurge and Exhibition at the ArtHouse in Austin, Texas this year. The party starts Friday, May 15th and continues through May 31. Loads of great Texas artists contributing their 5" x 7" wares. We're going to the artist preview party tonight to scope out where to stand amongst the throngs of people at the big party tomorrow night. We're hoping to snag a BradFord Smith or maybe a lovely Liz Kerrigan, wish us luck.

I have some new work in the group exhibition "STIMULATE", March 28 - April 25, 2009. The show is at the Craighead Green Gallery and the opening reception is Saturday, March 28, 5:00 - 8:00 PM.

Art Restoration

This is a piece called The Prodigy that was caught in Hurricane Ike in Galveston. The new owners asked me to restore it back to it's former glory. To repair it, I had to disassemble it and take everything down to bare metal, repair a weld, recreate the patina and make new juggling balls. This is the first time I've had to restore a sculpture to its former self and it was an interesting experiment recreating a piece from six years ago, but this baby turned out alright! The new owners are pleased and I'm pleased.
